Job Shadow Reflection
I was observing the teacher, how she greeted the class as they walked in. What I also was observing is how to talk to the class about how they behaved when they had a substitute teacher. What surprised me as I was observing the kids was how they were able to log on to the computers and how to get to where they wanted to be. Then I also got to see how the students all work together on an assignment that the teacher assigned. This was all done when I job shadow a first grade teacher here at a local elementary school. I chose to job shadow an elementary teacher because I would like to become a teacher for little kids or a high school teacher.
When I first got to the school I introduced myself to the teacher and was asking her many questions that I had. Then the students walked in and when they got settled into their seats, I got introduced to the class, and then I was at a side of the class observing the students and the teacher. I got to see how a teacher act and how to approach the students about their behavior when they had a substitute teacher. What I also got to see and also help out with was the students logging on to the computer. Then I got to see the teacher explain the assignment that they had to do and help them cut out the pictures and place them in the right place. I also got to see how she split the class up with kindergarten and first grade. This is due to the students not finishing up their work and also because of the system we are in.
During my time at the school, with the little ones, I got to see that I will like being a teacher, and the rewarding look of all the kids. I learned how to act with the kids when they behaved wrong and how to help them when they are getting on the computer. Also when to set up different rules so that when working with a group of kids they know to go ask other kids before coming to the teacher. What I don’t like is the system that we have here at Lindsay. I don’t like how it double the work and having two different grade levels in one class. I don’t like how some of the kids can’t do the work that the other kids are doing, and knowing that they should be doing that work because they actually have to be in that grade.
I am still looking forward to being a teacher; however I don’t know what grade level to teach. I do like to help all the little ones do their work and move on to the next thing learn new things, and how they can use that learning in the future. I also would like to be a teacher for high school, the subject I would like to teach is math. The reason in why I would teach math is because I love it, I also understand it, and I like to teach it. Finding different ways to teach math in order for all student to find a way to do math. With this opportunity I still am interested in becoming a teacher.
